Online Marketing through Search Results

There is a good chance you have heard of SEO or “Search Engine Optimisation”. Demonz Media has been providing SEO for a number of years now, and it is always a hot topic with our clients. If you are seeking an SEO company please contact us or visit our portfolio on the Demonz website. If you would like to know more about SEO continue reading.

Basically SEO leverages the enormous amount of traffic that goes through search engines like Google to increase customer visits to your website. It is one of the most powerful online marketing techniques available, and has the advantage of only reaching customers who are actually seeking your products. Most of us will use Google as our main search engine and should be familiar with the way that search engines return results. The typical lifespan of a search engine query looks like -

1.A search engine user was looking for something and we entered the appropriate keywords
2.Google returned search results for those keywords
3. The user then sorts through those results until they find what they want, normally within the first 10 results

SEO will maximise your potential in step 2, i.e. showing up in the relevant search results. For SEO to be effective it is important to make your site appear for keywords that people are actually searching for. If you’re not sure if people are searching for a keyword please ask Demonz as we are happy to help you with this. Once you have achieved ‘placement’ through search engine results you will increase the likelihood of being chosen in step 3 and having search engine users visit your website.

To achieve these results and placement it is necessary to understand how search engines work. While the ranking algorithms of search engines are secret and no-one can guarantee rankings, researchers (including Demonz) have been able to determine some of the important ranking factors behind search results via experimentation. Search Engine Optimisation is the process of using this research to help your website perform better in search engines.

The success of SEO campaigns usually boils down to good research, hard work and quality relevant content. Once you have attracted search engine users it is important that they can quickly find what they were looking for. The quality and topical relevance of content is taken into account in search engine algorithms, so writing quality content will also help your website rank better for those keywords.

The other very important factor behind SEO is the presence of your websites, also known as a website’s “popularity”. This is based on the number of quality, relevant links pointed to your web pages and works like a vote system. However not all votes are equal. Sites which are very high quality and are on topic have a stronger vote than weaker off-topic sites. Google uses a metric called ‘PageRank’ to symbolise the relative strength of pages, and this is one of a large number of factors that is used to rank websites (other examples are site age and localisation). Whenever Demonz takes on new clients we look at the aspects of their business that will allow them to continue building content and links and achieve long lasting search results.
